Established in 1969, Besselink & Jones is a leading English producer of handmade decorative lighting. The company’s range includes over 700 items in both classic and contemporary designs and comprises wall, table, floor and ceiling lights, as well as lampshades.
Besselink’s entire product range is designed and handmade in the company’s Surrey workshop, using contemporary tools; materials include chrome, brass, bronze, wood, marble, glass and ceramic. Besselink’s dedicated shade makers use traditional techniques to create the company’s range of silk lampshades. Using hand-spun, hand-dyed Honan silks from China, different weights and colours mixed together in pleats, linings and edgings to create various effects. Over 80 different types of trim are also available, including a colourful assortment of braids, fan edges and fringes. Lampshades are also available in materials including plain or hand-painted card, and oiled or crackled parchment, and in shapes such as empire, coolie, cut corner, square, portmeirion, pagoda, pumpkin and American drum. Besselink & Jones also offers a bespoke service, creating lamps and lampshades to a client’s specific requirements. Such items can range from adaptations of the company’s existing products, to completely new designs. Decorative items can also be created from artefacts such as vases, bottles or tins.
Besselink’s products have been placed in a number of prestigious homes, offices, clubs and hotels around the world, including Windsor Castle; Royal Palace, Oslo; the R&A in St. Andrews; the Dorchester and Claridges hotels in London; the Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados; and the China Club in Beijing.
