A huge choice of tiles at the click of a mouse at www.tiles.org.uk.
The Tile Association has published a 24 page consumer guide to tiles called Your Complete Guide to tiles. You can download it at www.tiles.org.uk/showcase/index.shtml?show=1 or email info@tiles.org.uk for a printed copy.
Fixers
Thinking about home improvements but you’ve no time to do it yourself? How do you choose a tradesman? How can you tell if the charming, chatty guy with the white van is an experienced professional or a cowboy? And what about that nice man you met in the pub and his “handy” friend?
Well, to start with, you could ask for references and follow them up but to save you the trouble you should insist on using a tradesman who is a member of a recognised trade association and preferably one that offers a guarantee backed warranty scheme.
The Tile Association won’t accept just anyone as a member. Each applicant is checked out for a good trading record and to ensure they are financially sound. Fixer members also have their workmanship assessed.
You can find a TTA fixer in you area at www.tiles.org.uk/directory/list.shtml?cat=type&list=fixer
Retailer
Tiles are not just a wall and floor coverings; they are a fashion statement for your home. Although tiles can last a lifetime UK home owners are now treating tiles as the Spaniards and Italians do – they are changing them every three to four years to keep right up to date with the very latest in interior fashions.
Tiles can be used anywhere in the home and the selection of tiles available today is staggering. You will need good practical advice when choosing the most suitable tiles for your home. Just visit your local TTA member tile showroom to see the vast choice available.
The Tile Association recommends that all tile fixing work is carried out in accordance with the British Standard code of practice for wall and floor tiling, BS5385. Your nearest TTA retailer will be happy to advise.
Tile Association members are very proud of their logo and will not let anyone use it unless they are competent. It checks potential member companies for financial health and insists on references.
